Steins Gate, Otaku Art oRomantic Review
After watching Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Second Raid, I had been searching for an anime with the perfect mixture of action, plot, and romance. Finally, I found one good enough to talk about.
Steins Gate is about time travel and a mad scientist who wants to prove that it’s possible, but runs into many challenges after finding out it is possible. He creates a phone microwave and starts experiments with sending messages or ‘D-Mail’ to the past telling the receiver to do or not do something differently. This shifts ‘world lines’ and puts all characters in another dimensional world where only the main character can remember what happened in the last world line.
After Kurisu, another scientist enters the team, she transforms the phone microwave to have the ability to ‘time-leap’ which sends and persons memories through time within that world line.
The first couple episodes are pretty slow and confusing because you don’t really know why certain things happened until way later in the series. Then up until episode 12, it is all steady character development while learning about time travel. But after episode 12, everything changes, and the anime becomes an intense thrill ride with twists and turns all the way through until the end.
And don’t worry, there is romance! But you just have to wait and watch it develop.
