Anime Animation Evolve

As I watch older anime like Full Metal Panic, Neon Evangeon, Chobits, School Rumble and then see the newer ones just being released in Japan like Tari Tari, AKB0048, Steins Gate, Yosuga no Sora, I am noticing how the animation is evolving.  Technology is better and new anime are taking advantage of the crisp and clear picture available now to animators.  3D cgi used to pop up in old animes but since it was new, it kind of looked awkward with the compression of the drawings of the characters.  It is now being perfected and detailed, looking more and more natural within the new animations.

I feel like the style of anime itself is becoming a little different.  I notice more and more in the newer anime that the characters are drawn more delicately.  And it seems to be more popular to elongate the faces and bodies.  They look skinnier and taller.  The points on the chins, that are essential to the anime style, is more apparent.  Also, the eyes are still drawn big but less of a bubble and have more of a horizontal style to them.

Could anime be trying to head in a different direction stylistically?  Animators cannot stray too far from the anchored rules for anime without losing anime fans, but I’m excited to see what they can do within this unique style to make it more endearing to us in the future.

Steins GateOtaku Art oRomantic Review

After watching Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Second Raid, I had been searching for an anime with the perfect mixture of action, plot, and romance.  Finally, I found one good enough to talk about.

Steins Gate is about time travel and a mad scientist who wants to prove that it’s possible, but runs into many challenges after finding out it is possible.  He creates a phone microwave and starts experiments with sending messages or ‘D-Mail’ to the past telling the receiver to do or not do something differently.  This shifts ‘world lines’ and puts all characters in another dimensional world where only the main character can remember what happened in the last world line.

After Kurisu, another scientist enters the team, she transforms the phone microwave to have the ability to ‘time-leap’ which sends and persons memories through time within that world line.

The first couple episodes are pretty slow and confusing because you don’t really know why certain things happened until way later in the series.  Then up until episode 12, it is all steady character development while learning about time travel.  But after episode 12, everything changes, and the anime becomes an intense thrill ride with twists and turns all the way through until the end.

And don’t worry, there is romance! But you just have to wait and watch it develop.

Just started Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun last night.  It’s wildly entertaining.  A definite harem.

Painting I just finished. I’ll touch it up a bit when it dries.  Tsubake-kun and Urabe-san and the Photograph Between Their Almost Kiss, Oil on Canvas 58inx54in.

Yuri Nakamura and Haruhi Suzimiya cosplay success!

This looks amazing.  Steins Gate.  I’m on episode 9 out of 22.

I’m getting an anime styled tattoo soon.  Everyone I talk with about this says that they think it’s a bad idea but here are some examples of what I think were pretty successful anime tattoos.  Mine, will probably be either Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic), Chi (Chobits), Sora (Yosuga no Sora) but I’m still trying to decide.  It’s going to be on my upper left arm.

Kazo no Konjo Essuke (Mysterious Girlfriend X) Anime and Manga Otaku Art oRomance Review

One of the new animes coming out in Japan is Mysterious Girlfriend X.  A borderline ecchi/harem romance anime about a boy who falls in-love after tasting a girls drool.  I cannot stress enough how addicting this anime is.  The heroine, Urabe, is such a distant difficult character to understand, hence ‘mysterious.’  But this is one of the reasons it is so addicting.  Her hobby is being efficient at scissors and her reactions to things like jealousy and sex are so random it hurts.  It stresses the viewer to watch as Tsubake-kun(the boy) tries to understand Urabe while getting mixed up with other girls and getting in trouble with the reactions of the mysterious girl who he loves through a bond of drool.

This series has girls that are like bosses in a video game.  A girl that is not Urabe, comes along to test the bond between them.  It gets more and more intense each time.  From ex-crushes, to new and attractive friends, to being in a movie production with the cutest girl in class as Tsubake-kuns girlfriend in a movie shot for the schools festival.  The intensity never ends.  You’ll be striving to be scared for the reactions of Urabe-san.

At first when I saw this anime, I was disgusted(with the drool scenes), and disappointed with Urabes, ‘look.’  But after awhile you start to really love Urabe-san, and wish you had a bond as weird as Tsubake-kun and Urabe-san’s.  This is a romantic anime that needs to be watched by all of you.

Just read through the Full Metal Panic Sigma manga volumes 1 - 15 in one night and ALL I WANT IS FOR THIS PICTURE TO REALLY HAPPEN ALREADY!

This is an oil painting I did for my final project in Painting 1 at Towson University.  It’s 46 inches by 32 inches on stretched canvas.  The girl is an unknown character copied from a Pixiv artist.
I am currently working on my next anime oil painting.  It will be 54in x 58in.
